Some images are missing after an import

Fix missing images when a source store or host rate-limits WooCommerce Importer or PrestaShop Importer.

If products arrive in Shopify without some images, your source store or host may have rate-limited the image requests with an HTTP 429 response.

This is common on shared hosting and can also come from a security plugin, CDN or web application firewall. Product data may still import because it uses fewer requests than a large image library.

What you may see

  • Some public images may still appear in Shopify, while others are missing.
  • Images in formats that Shopify cannot accept directly may be missing.
  • Protected PrestaShop webservice images may be missing because Shopify cannot authenticate against the source.
  • TIFF images remain unsupported.

Shopify may show Media failed to process because the image could not be processed. That message does not identify whether the cause was rate limiting, source access, image format or file size.

How to fix it

  1. Ask your host to lift the rate limit for the migration.
  2. If the host supports allow-listing, use the Server IP shown on the app’s Connect page. Always use the value shown there because it can change.
  3. Restart the import’s download process after the host confirms the change.
  4. Check the affected products and description images in Shopify.

Re-imports are free. If the rate limit returns, ask the host which security layer is still answering with HTTP 429 before restarting again.
